Excited to Announce Some Poetry MADNESS and My New Nonfiction Picture Book!

Happy March to one and all! It’s been way more lion than lamb around here today that’s for sure. So to help brighten up an otherwise gloomy day, I have two exciting announcements to share:

First, the MADNESS is on again! I’m not talking basketball, I’m talking POETRY. Ed DeCaria’s March Madness Poetry competition returns this year, and yours truly is once again an “authlete.” I’m excited to be part of the fun! The competition begins Sunday, March 5 when the first words are revealed. I’m hoping for tons of support from my blog and Twitter followers as well as my Facebook friends! Learn how you and/or your class can get involved by clicking below:

Second, (which really happened first) my first nonfiction picture book for kids, ALL ABOUT SOCIAL NETWORKING (Red Line Editorial/North Star Editions) was released in late January! It’s part of a series on Cutting Edge Technology and is available for purchase from Amazon.com (just click on the picture for more information).

Thanks to all of you for your continued support of my writing journey. It means so much to have you along for the ride!

Sensibility- Renewing commitments on a regular basis helps maintain focus and keep dreams alive!

Sense- March is a great time to recommit to those writing goals you set in January. Check your list and take stock of where you are and where you want to go.

Have you met any personal writing goals since January? Share them here!

It’s March Madness for Poetry!

I’m proud to be participating this year in the March Madness Poetry competition!

Sixty-four authletes submitted their best children’s poem for round 1 around an assigned word, and voting has already started! Click the picture below or any of the links in this post to read the entries and vote for your favorites. My poem will be up this afternoon. My word is “combination.” C’mon over and help vote me into the next round!!! Thanks!

Get Ready for the Madness!!! Poetry Madness That is!

It’s almost March, and that means Madness…for POETRY!

I’m honored to once again be participating in Ed DeCaria’s March Madness Poetry Contest! I’m in the running alongside 64 amazing writers. The writing begins March 8th with the first flight word matchups. Voting begins shortly after the poems are submitted. I’ll keep you posted when my poem is up and ready for viewing and voting!

So what can you do to help? Vote! Vote! Vote! And encourage your teacher-friends to register their classrooms as well. The winning group of students receives 64 volumes of kids poetry for a classroom library. At the end of the contest, each participating authlete sends a favorite poetry collection to the winning class. Not only is it crazy-poetic fun, it’s for a great cause.

So watch my blog and be ready to vote for your favorites! Here’s the link to get you started!

Sensibility- It’s the little things, like participating in contests, that keep writing fun. Look for chances to share your work in this way.

Sense- Writing from a writing prompt, or in this case one word, stretches your writing muscles and keeps you fresh!

And speaking of writing..don’t forget to check out PGWRites Critiques. If you need a fresh perspective on your picture books, I’m here to help!
